A New Enterprise

Announcing the birth of my new baby.  Wait, what?  No, I did not have another kid.  I'm creating a new business.  Actually, it's just a new brand.  It's a new way to offer all the same services I always have offered.  Just in a new and different, more personal, and more direct way than I've done before.

The whole "social networking" game is changing the Internet.  I've been doing business online since the late nineties and until recently it was relatively easy to compete against much larger companies anonymously by simply working steady and offering a better product.

Both of those things are still necessary, but that alone isn't good enough anymore.  Now you have put somebody out there to be the public voice and face for your company.  You have to be a character in a phoney play were thousands of people you never met before, and never will meet, get to watch and comment on your every online effort.  You then also have to involve yourself in a bunch of other stranger's plays.  All in an attempt by everyone to get attention and be recognized.

Frankly, I hate it.  I've struggled to find a way to transition the marketing efforts for my existing businesses into the social networking world and I just couldn't do it.  At least not with any real consistency.  One reason is because those businesses function with the support of lots of other people working behind the scenes and I never felt truly free to be active in the social game due to a fear of screwing it up and having that negatively affect those businesses and all those people in a major way.  For the same reason, I've been cautious about hiring somebody else to handle the task.

So I decided to create a new brand identity and to openly attach my name to it from the start.  That way if I screw it up then nobody else gets hurt.  This new enterprise is called Real Person Marketing (RealPersonMarketing.com).  If you click the link and get a 404 error then that's because as of this writing I haven't setup the site for it yet.  I'm kind of flying by the seat of pants with this project and don't have all the parts fully worked out.

But that's the beauty of it.  I'm not going to hold back.  I'm not going to be careful.  I'm going to say what I want, do what I want, and work with those who can appreciate what I'm trying to accomplish and what I have to offer.  With this new venture I won't have to be reserved and I plan on exercising that freedom as much as possible.

Now, what is Real Person Marketing all about?  It's a name that I chose because to me it represents two things.  It's who I am and it's what you're going to get.  For many years I have worked with hundreds of small businesses around the world and helped them with developing marketing strategies, brand identities, integrated marketing plans, designed and developed websites, search engine optimization, and more.  Since I now have to market myself more to stay current in the web game, I chose the name because it fits.  I am a Real Person and I am RealPersonMarketing.com.

The second thing the name represents is the type of personal service I provide.  So much of the world we live in now is impersonal and automated.  That is quickly becoming true in the world of business marketing as well.  Too many marketing companies apply an almost assembly line mentality to the process.  That doesn't work.  Every business is unique and to get the most bang for your buck there needs to be a unique and integrated strategy put together to meet your business' unique market.  That's exactly what you get from me.  I am Matt Benson and I am RealPersonMarketing.com.

Yes, if you ever meet me out in the real world that is how I will introduce myself.  This is the way the web works now.  You want a character and I'm going to give you one.  I have a gimmick, a catchy name, a quirky slogan, and 15 years of marketing experience to put it all together and see if it sticks to something.  Over the coming weeks and months watch for more posts here and at all my other social spots.  There will be commentary, articles, various tutorials, case histories, and even a video every once in a while.

And if you want me to help you expand and grow your business.  Send me an email or call anytime.
